DirektText started as a tool for turning spoken thoughts into editable text. The goal was simple: Capture the first draft faster and with less friction.
I built it because I wrote a lot of reports and wanted to make the process more comfortable.
Windows needed a practical option.
There also were not many satisfying tools for Windows. I wanted something practical, fast to open, and close to the way I actually worked.
The first version ran locally because voice data felt personal.
At the beginning, I did not want to send my voice off device and did not have the infrastructure for cloud-based transcription. So I used local models to do the work.
Over time, DirektText grew into a more flexible product. Now cloud transcription capacity offers faster speeds and makes it easy to start without worrying about hardware requirements. For technical users, local models provide more control and BYOK options offer provider flexibility.
Speaking instead of typing was just the first step.
Once the app was transcribing reliably, the next point of friction became obvious. Raw text still needed structure: bullet points, summaries, action items...
DirektText grew into modes, history, vocabulary, Quick Phrases, file transcription, local paths, ready-to-use cloud transcription capacity, and configurable workflows with the idea that everyone could customise the app to their needs.
