Subscriptions are for people who just want to download the program and get started. You focus on the work that matters to you and DirektText handles the technical details. But for those who care, subscriptions still allow the set up of local models and for you to bring your own API key.
Lifetime licenses are for users who prefer a one-time purchase and can run local models or have their own API keys. They are a poor fit if you just want to download the software and start using it.
Subscriptions include managed cloud transcription, so you can start working without any set up. Lifetime purchases are one-time desktop licenses intended for more technical people who just want local processing or bring their own API keys. They do not include cloud credits.
The subscription plans differ by monthly credits and access. Dictation covers single-speaker dictation and transcription with 200 credits. Professional is the default for daily speech productivity: it adds multi-speaker modes for meetings, interviews, and calls, with 500 credits. Professional Plus has the same access as Professional with 1,000 credits for heavy use.
Credits are one monthly allowance shared by cloud transcription and AI processing. An hour of standard dictation uses about 3 credits; an hour of multi-speaker meeting transcription with an AI recap uses about 6. You can spend your allowance on any mix of modes, and credits do not roll over.
